The portrait of John Redman Bovell is one of the most enduring motifs of Barbadian money: it appeared on the two-dollar note long before the reforms and remained on this denomination in both the 2013 series and the 2022 polymer.
John Redman Bovell is one of the two Barbadians on the notes who do not hold the title of National Hero: of the six portraits four are National Heroes, while Bovell and the cricketer Frank Worrell earned their place on the money through their own services to the island.
This note belongs to the original design of the money of the Central Bank of Barbados, founded in 1972: the first full redesign came only in 2013. The notes were printed by the London firm De La Rue.
For a Barbados collection this is a two-dollar note in the classic design that preceded the 2013 and 2022 reforms, and a starting point for comparing three generations of the Bovell two. UNC condition means the note has never circulated: no folds, no wear, no soiling, even corners — just as it left the press.
A collection can grow in any direction, and the VPcoins catalogue has options for each of them.
